The Dark Sire is a non-paying market that continually seeks submissions of short fiction, poetry, art, and now screenplays. The main focus of the magazine is to celebrate the influential work of Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley, Anne Rice, Stephen King, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Fyodor Dostoevsky, and thus will accept submissions from authors and artists who delve into the mystery, psychosis, suspense, and looming darkness of the Gothic, Horror, Fantasy, and Psychological realms. Suitable subject matter may include, but is not limited to, vampires, monsters, old castles, dragons, magic, mental illness, hell, disease, or decay of society.
We're interested in HORROR and DARK FANTASY fiction. You know the sort of thing these headings cover – of course you do. Make it scary, creepy, deadly. If you want dragons and elves, fine, but make sure they do terrifying things, or are terrified of something else. Humour is fine, monsters, serial killers – we'll give any of these good old stereotypes a chance if you think they're worth sending in. But remember: atmosphere is important, plot is more important.
We are looking for speculative fiction that concerns itself with death–but also everything death may involve. A ghost in a shadowed wood. An afterlife discovered through a rusted door. An abandoned house in the middle of a haunted field. A skeletal figure moving with intent toward something unseen.
We're looking for original and previously unpublished fantasy and horror short fiction with a maximum of 1500 words, written in English.
Fiction, nonfiction, photos, art, and interviews
What We Are Looking For:
Original short stories that are creative and fresh. I am seeking not only horror, but mystery, suspense, science fiction, speculative, and most of all, good character development.
We want horror in all its forms—from literary to weird, Gothic to psychological, and (almost) everything in between. We’re looking for amazing stories from amazing authors, regardless of race, gender, religion—if you’ve got something good, we want it.
Nocturne Magazine accepts work that may *sort of* fit into the genres of horror, dark fantasy, or speculative. However, we can be convinced of branching out as long as there’s something deeply unsettling about your submission.
We want something that makes us stay awake at night. Or have strange dreams. Or wake up still thinking about your piece while we drink our morning coffee. We don’t just want “eww,” or “yikes.” We want to scroll through your submission with trembling fingers.
Fiction reminiscent of The Twilight Zone, Black Mirror, Tales from the Crypt, and Tales from the Darkside. We want stories with complex characters and ideas spun in ways nobody’s ever conceived. Make our brains hurt. Make our hearts explode with love and terror. Make us fear.
Scare Street is accepting submissions for short horror stories with a focus on ghosts, the supernatural, paranormal, monsters, and dark tales.
Seize The Press Magazine is looking to publish dark, transgressive speculative fiction. Bleak sci-fi, dark fantasy and horror only. We’re looking for stories that aren’t didactic or moralistic. We want stories where everything isn’t wrapped up neatly at the end. Strict 2,000 word limit.
Tales From Between is an ebook short story journal focusing on horror and fantasy.
Three Crows want your stories of dark and weird fantasy, horror, and sci-fi, with complex characters making morally ambiguous decisions.
UNDERLAND ARCANA is published four times a year and is looking for previously unpublished short fiction that veers into the numinous, the esoteric, the supernatural, and the weird. We like these stories to be mildly speculative, fantastic, mysterious, and/or horrific (if you prefer genre tags). We’re not terribly keen on stories that splash through gore, but we don’t mind the grotesque. We prefer character-driven pieces, but will pause and admire works that are exceptionally experimental in tone, style, and presentation
We are seeking horror and weird fiction from 500 to 6,000 words, firm. Stories over or under the word count will not be read. (Please respect our word counts.) We are not interested in extreme horror.
