Leaving a great mystery story unpublished is a crime! Find a market for it today!
Because this is a mystery magazine, the stories we buy must fall into that genre in some sense or another. We are interested in nearly every kind of mystery: stories of detection of the classic kind, police procedurals, private eye tales, suspense, courtroom dramas, stories of espionage, and so on
Hard-as-nails crime fiction. About 1500-5000 words. No reprints. Pay is $25. Send an email to allduerespect@outlook.com with the story attached as a Word document. Please submit only one story per month.
We publish work that is gritty, graphic and disturbing and stress readers err on the side of caution when reading certain themes. We will consider other genres such as western, science fiction, transgressive fiction and maybe fantasy, as long as they fit in with the grit theme we are looking for.
We are always open to submissions of new stories of up to a maximum of 10,000 words. Your story should be in standard MS format (double spaced, good margins, contact details, approximate word count, and page numbers). Please include a covering letter. Never send simultaneous submissions, multiple submissions, or reprints. Please have only one story (per magazine) under consideration at any one time.
Don't be offended by a form rejection. It simply means that we're really busy, with lots of stories to read. But even a form rejection means what it says: send the rejected story somewhere else and try us with something new…and keep on trying!
The Dark City is dedicated to the love of the story, and in particular, the rough and tumble of the world of crime and violence. We are fans of story that has roots in reality but we do consider humorous situations and characters to be part of reality. We hope to acquire stories that leave readers thinking about the characters and their dilemma.
Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine welcomes submissions from both new and established writers. We publish every kind of mystery short story: the psychological suspense tale, the deductive puzzle, the private eye case—the gamut of crime and detection from the realistic (including the policeman's lot and stories of police procedure) to the more imaginative (including "locked rooms" and "impossible crimes").
Gumshoe Review is now open to accepting short original fiction. What we're looking for in stories is a complete mystery in 1,000 words or less. We don't want character studies or mood pieces. We'd like it to lean towards noir but being a mystery -- telling a story is actually more important.
Please submit only one complete story at a time. Multiple submissions will not be read. Fiction submissions will be considered for both our print and online editions unless you specifically state otherwise in your cover letter.
Use the form below to send us your 1000-7500 word story or You-Solve-It mystery.
We are looking for crime fiction that makes us forget that we are reading!
Any genre or between-genre work of literature, or visual art (black and white for interiors, colour for covers) up to 50 pages in length. Short stories, novellas, poetry, comics, illustrations — bring it on. We do not publish non-fiction, memoir, or young adult and children’s stories. Aside from that, we want anything entertaining and well written.
Established in 2011, Shotgun Honey has been a steady outlet for crime, noir, and hard-boiled flash fiction. After a decade of submissions, we’ve seen nearly every permutation of the genre that can fit within this tiny 700-word world. So surprise us and send your best original crime flash stories.
We are interested in mysteries, detective stories, tales of terror and the supernatural as well as short stories. Stories can be set in any time or place, provided they are well written, the plots interesting, and well thought out.
